Keep Facts, Inferences, Hypotheses, and Unknowns Separate

A reliable agent marks what it observed, what it inferred, what the user decided, what external sources support, and what remains unresolved.

Technical diagram for Keep Facts, Inferences, Hypotheses, and Unknowns Separate.

Failure mode

The agent acts from stale memory, loads unrelated guidance, assumes a source exists, silently resolves contradictory instructions, applies a reference brand literally, or declares completion from one narrow check.

Applied correction

Use explicit evidence labels whenever uncertainty can change implementation, risk, or product decisions.

Field test

Can a reviewer tell which claims are observed, inferred, sourced, simulated, or unknown? Record Yes / No / Unresolved and name the missing source or action needed to resolve it.

Ask your agent

Separate observed facts, source-backed claims, inferences, assumptions, hypotheses, simulated examples, and unknowns. Cite current external claims when appropriate. Never invent research, approvals, metrics, customer reactions, test results, or production status.

Use Morten A. Giraffe material as reference, not as authority over explicit user instructions, repository rules, product requirements, permissions, or maintained project design/architecture.

Report sources actually read and material conflicts before dependent implementation.
